Income Tax officials on Wednesday conducted a large-scale search of the residences of Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap and heroine Taapsee Pannu and several Bollywood actors and producers including Taapsee Pannu and Anurag Kashyap the following day.
It is said that this step was taken due to non-payment of income tax on time as well as allegations of income tax evasion.
Anurag Kashyap founded a production company back in 2011 called Phantom Films. It was later dissolved in the year 2018.
However, the IT department is investigating allegations that the company has committed tax evasion.
As part of that founder and managers of the company Anurag Kashyap, director Vikramaditya Motwane, producer Vikas Behal and distributor Madhu Mantena Varma’s offices were also searched.
IT officials revealed sensational information in this order. They said that hundreds of crores of rupees were evaded from the phantom production company.
Speaking on the occasion, an official said, “Phantom Films Production House has earned a huge income. However, it was not disclosed in the calculations. Company officials are unable to show proper documents for about Rs 300 crore. Production Company manipulated transactions. A lower value is shown instead of the actual value in the calculations”
“In addition, about Rs 350 crore Tax evasion has come into the light. The popular actress (Taapsee Pannu) handed us cash receipts for just Rs 5 crore. Also, fake documents worth about Rs 20 crore were submitted against a famous producer/director. This amount was also tax evaded. Similar issues are coming to light in the case of the actress as well. The investigation is not yet complete. We will provide full details soon” he said.
IT department officials inspected the residences of Tapsee Pannu, director Anurag Kashyap, Reliance Entertainment CEO Subhashish Sarkar, and others.

One of the officials said that simultaneous searches were conducted in 30 areas in Mumbai and Pune.
Celebrity management companies ‘KWAN’ and Exide Entertainment’s representative offices were also inspected.
The search, which began in the morning, continued until late at night.
Authorities said several documents and electronic equipment were seized. Authorities later questioned Taapsee Pannu and Anurag Kashyap.
