Story About Malaria and Its Impact on Communities

Malaria is a serious disease that affects millions of people around the world, and it’s especially important to be aware of it during the summer and rainy seasons. This year, World Malaria Day is a reminder of the importance of prevention and timely treatment in combating this disease.

Dr Dinesh Kumar Tyagi, Additional Director of Internal Medicine at Fortis Hospital in Greater Noida, emphasizes the need for awareness, testing, and early treatment to prevent the complications of malaria. Malaria is a vector-borne disease transmitted by female Anopheles mosquitoes, and it can cause a range of symptoms, from headaches and joint pain to severe fevers or chills. In some cases, symptoms can mimic jaundice or epilepsy, leading to complications such as respiratory and renal issues.

One of the most deadly forms of malaria is the Plasmodium falciparum variant, which is prevalent in the Dadri region and can prove fatal within 24 hours. That’s why it’s so important to get tested and treated as soon as possible if you think you may have malaria.

To prevent the spread of malaria, Dr Tyagi recommends several practical measures. These include installing nets on windows and doors, using mosquito nets while sleeping, wearing full-sleeved clothes, using mosquito repellents and insecticides, and eliminating stagnant water around households to prevent mosquito breeding.

At Fortis Hospital, we are committed to providing world-class treatment and diagnosis for malaria. Through education and proactive healthcare initiatives, we aim to contribute to the elimination of this disease.
