Before 1991, Russia, Ukraine, and the other 15 countries were together as a single country called the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) or commonly known as the Soviet Union.
Countries including Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and other countries formed the Soviet Union and were together for many years. Due to internal conflicts between countries the Soviet Union got dismantled in 1991, the above 15 countries declared themselves independent countries along with Ukraine.
On the eastern side of Ukraine’s region, Donbas and Crimea have Russian ethnic groups (the people who speak Russian and follow Russian culture). the people in this region support and uphold Russia’s acts while the others on the west side support the independent country and rely on Europe.
The cold war between Russia and Ukraine prevailed since the USSR’s separation. despite constant threats from Russia on Ukraine’s invasion the country lived peacefully and was beginning to develop a good economy and stand tall amongst the other European countries.
The conflict between the two countries had started earlier due to the Donbas and Crimea regions. The people who live in Donbas wanted to join their state in the Russian country. For this Russian government has provided funding of some million dollars and supplied weapons to go against Ukraine government.
In 2013, Russia occupied Ukraine’s state called Crimea. Crimea is one of the crucial regions for Ukraine and Russia. It is an island connecting Ukraine and Russia.
Also, it is a port area, and ballistic missiles are deployed in this region. After this, Russia wanted to occupy Donbas. Russia started in Donbas by giving funds to pro-Russians. this started another round of spitfire between the two countries.
but the actual reason for the current declaration of war against Ukraine by the Dictator Vladamir Putin is Ukraine’s talking with NATO countries.
in order to protect the people and the interests of the country, Ukraine showed interest in joining NATO to increase its defense forces. when the American agency announced that it is ready to provide NATO membership to Ukraine. Russia started opposing it and internally started to draw a plan to sabotage the Ukrainian government by declaring war against them.
During the world war against Russia and Germany, America and the other 12 countries formed NATO the number of countries in NATO has increased up to 30 by 2022. NATO is one of the world’s strongest defense alliances and if Ukraine joined NATO there would be no chance for Russia to stand against them. The country that will be a member of this organization will get the support of military and war weapons from other NATO countries when needed.
So, Vladamir Putin started lining up his soldiers and war tanks in Ukraine’s border getting ready to strike any moment.
Russia started demanding NATO not to give Ukraine NATO membership. regardless of all the threats posed by Russia Ukraine was functioning normally until on Wednesday 23/02/22 Vladamir Putin announced a “special military operation” against Ukraine and started bombarding the country from all three routes i.e., air, water, and land.
so far both countries have been standing their ground. while Russia continues to invade Ukraine’s capital and other cities Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is standing alone defending his country along with his army and people.
regardless of life threats, Zelenskyy is standing against Putin to fight until his last breath for his country. the whole world is urging Russia to stop the war but Putin as an aggressor is pushing forward not stopping until he has it all.
